3 fall fashion trends to try in 2022
Often when I mention the word “trend” to my style coaching clients, they immediately say trends are not for them. They prefer something age-appropriate, classic, or more unique than what others are wearing. We love helping people better understand how trends work, regardless of age, style, or silhouette.
Before becoming a style coach, I was a trend forecaster in New York City. This job has allowed me to learn where trends come from, which trends last and how to choose the right trends based on both lifestyle and personal style. I apply this knowledge every day and look forward to seeing him analyze three of the most wearable trends this fall.
3 fall fashion trends to try in 2022
bold and bright colors
The first trends are BOLD and BRIGHT. Fashion designers were ready for an injection of happy, fun shades and didn’t want to save them for spring. Fuchsia, sunset orange, emerald green, sunflower yellow and amethyst dominated the fall collection. . If you prefer a more neutral color palette, try weaving one of these shades into your accessories. Incorporate a pop of color with a silk scarf and shoes for just the right touch.
If you dare, try bright blazers and blouses. If you’re a color-wearing enthusiast, you can also try a head-to-toe look of fuchsia and orange for a truly great (and very trendy) vibe. You will definitely feel the difference in your wardrobe.
blazer
My personal favorite trend is SUIT UP. I don’t work in a corporate environment, but I love jeans and a good blazer for work. Whatever your lifestyle, know that if a blazer suits your style, you can rock it.
This classic item is no longer just a trouser accessory. It can be thrown over a dress or paired with jeans, ankle pants or midi skirts (as long as the proportions are right). The best part is that many blazers come in stretchy fabrics, allowing comfort and sophistication to coexist!
If a blazer isn’t your style, you can opt for a cropped cardigan.
Trends are about picking the ones that best suit your personal style and styling them to make your figure look its best.
leather
Leather used to be an investment. Thankfully, fabrics are more accessible than ever this fall, so there are so many vegan and faux-leather options. Leather jackets are always in fashion, but designers are venturing into different areas. Leather tops, leather joggers, leather shirt dresses and leather pleated midi skirts. Choose the type of leather garment that resonates most with you and run with it.
These days, like blazers, leather garments often tend to be more stretchy and shaped to look better. This means that you may want to evaluate the leather goods in your closet from the past.
There’s a sea of trends in stores each season, but I encourage you to be more purposeful about what you buy. It’s easy to buy things that say “just have to have”. But really, you know your style and what feels real to you. We recommend adding 1-3 trends per season. Doing so will keep you looking and feeling up-to-date, but avoid going overboard. Not all trends are for everyone, and that’s okay.
