Winnebago County – The County of Winnebago Department of Health is offering Paxlovid, an antiviral treatment, to everyone who tests positive for COVID.

Paxlovid is an oral drug used to treat COVID-19. Take 3 tablets twice daily for 5 days. Anyone over the age of 12 who has tested positive for the virus can schedule an appointment to receive this treatment from the Winnebago County Health Department.

Dr. Sandra Martell, Public Health Administrator for the Winnebago County Health Department, said:

When making an appointment, you should visit your health department to ensure that any pre-existing conditions or medications will not interfere with Paxlovid.

“You don’t necessarily need a healthcare provider to do that, and it really helps protect the healthcare system for people who need treatment for heart attacks, strokes and diabetes.”

Doctors say it’s possible to relapse and test positive again, but symptoms after treatment are rare.

“Some people report that their symptoms disappeared after the first few doses and that they felt dramatically better after taking Paxlovidm,” said Dr. Stephen Bartlett of OSF St. Anthony. increase.

Medical experts say it’s not a perfect cure, but Winnebago County is still in the middle of the community level. This means the medical system is starting to strain.
