Corvallis, Oregon – The latest developments and future trajectory of the war in Ukraine will be discussed at Oregon State University’s Science Pub event on October 4th at 6pm.
The free event, which can be attended in person at the Old World Deli in Corvallis or viewed online, will feature a presentation by Sarah Henderson, Associate Professor of Political Science at Oregon State University’s Graduate School of Public Policy at the Liberal Arts College.
Ukraine continues to defend itself more than seven months after Russia’s aggression. Henderson said many initially expected that the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would not be able to withstand Russian forces for a week.
Meanwhile, in the weeks that followed, many political experts believed Western sanctions were enough to paralyze the Russian economy, weaken support for Vladimir Putin, and contribute to a potential regime change in Russia. rice field.
“Neither has happened,” she said. “And while Ukraine has ‘fought and thought’ more successfully in military operations, Russia still uses a powerful arsenal, with control over energy supplies and possession of nuclear weapons.”
In a talk at the Science Pub, Henderson will discuss the unexpected consequences of war against Ukraine, Russia and the West, and the future potential of this regional war with global consequences.
Registration is required to attend the Science Pub in person or browse online.
Science Pub sponsors include the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Old World Deli, and Oregon State University.
