NEW ULM — Brown County Board Will Consider Requesting Three Public Health Workers to Attend Minnesota Cares Wellness Workshop Oct. 6-7 in Minneapolis on Tuesday .

This conference is offered as a way to thank healthcare workers and promote healing and wellness in the healthcare community, including public health following the COVID-19 response.

“Our healthcare community has selflessly cared for the people of Minnesota during the pandemic for over two years, at great cost to their physical and mental health.” Brown County Public Health Commissioner Karen Moritz said:

“Workers report feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, depressed and anxious. There are shortages in almost every occupation.” Moritz added.

She said the opportunity was offered to all department staff who participated in the COVID-19 response with the intention of choosing up to three staff members to participate.Moritz said Michelle Steinbeisser, disease control and emergency preparedness coordinator and Maternal and Child Health Nurses Michelle Miller and Lisa Compton expressed interest. There was no need to exclude those who wanted to participate.

Accommodation, mileage, and meals are covered by Brown County’s federal COVID-19 grant.

The event is open to anyone in hospitals, clinics, long-term care, pharmacies, emergency medicine, public health, and other healthcare communities who have provided care or support services during the pandemic.

Workshop topics include burnout and self-care. From the road to health, from the front lines to the future, it’s about finding your own beat, the rhythm of life.

Session themes include active participation in small group sessions, activities to assist recovery from stressful events, and activities that provide tools and techniques that can be used at work to reset the autonomic nervous system. so you can continue to work while taking care of yourself. Ability to cope with stressors over the long term.

The Board will consider requesting that Brown County public health educator/planner Erin Krohn Schwab attend the annual Minnesota Prevention Program Sharing Conference in Duluth, October 20-21. To do. Presented by the Minnesota Prevention Resource Center, this conference supports those involved in substance abuse prevention.

Krohn-Schwab is responsible for planning, coordinating and coordinating the Chemical Health Action Team. The conference expands her chemical health knowledge, provides prevention ideas, and connects with other prevention workers across the state.

Accommodation, mileage and meals will be covered by unused 2022 budget funds due to the inability of conference staff to attend. The Opioid Settlement Fund is another possible source of funding, should it become available.
