Fashion Month runways have historically eschewed size inclusivity, but the tide is slowly but surely changing. But progress in menswear has stalled further, and we’ve seen very few plus-size male models wearing the new collection this season.However, during London Fashion Week earlier this month, SS Daley’s Spring 2023 The show featured several plus-size male models. James Corbin, a 23-year-old London-based model on the rise. Below, Corbin talks about the power walking her fashion week has brought and where she hopes fashion will go in the future.

My family is Caribbean and Kenyan, but I was born and raised in London. I grew up in Brixton, surrounded by Caribbean and Jamaican people. I never thought of fashion as something I could be a part of. I’ve always been a big kid, so I didn’t think I needed to think about anything in front of the camera.

During the lockdown, the casting director sent me a DM for shooting. vogue italiaI didn’t think it was true. I liked I don’t look like a model. It was a shoot about happiness, but I remember having imposter syndrome. Filmed within 1 minute. When it came out, it got such a great response – it kindled emotions I had never felt before. I realized that there is a purpose here. Plus size people weren’t the only people I got messages from. Both men and women had problems with how they viewed their bodies.

I had to contact a modeling agency for that shoot, but I was honest.passed the director [my agency] Super, and I signed. We needed someone who wanted to be an industry trailblazer, a pioneer. I immediately started working with Tim Walker and Charles Jeffrey Loverboy.got the cover of Perfect Magazines within the first few months. I was so grateful, but along the way I learned that the brand didn’t make clothes in my size yet. Because I have no clothes,” he said.
