FREMONT — Sandusky County Public Health has a stock of Moderna and Pfizer’s new COVID-19 booster shots to be administered at the Department of Health’s vaccine clinic on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Sandusky County Health Commissioner Bethany Brown said on Thursday that the new booster, recently updated with the Omicron variant in mind, could be given to residents who have received two major courses of COVID vaccines. Stated.
Brown said the booster shots should be given at least two months after the resident last received the vaccine.
She said she was unaware of any local hospitals in Sandusky County that administer the vaccine.
“Really, it’s just pharmacies and us. I don’t know which pharmacies have new boosters,” Brown said.
The County Health Department has an immunization clinic on Wednesdays from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Over 55% of Sandusky County residents have finally received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This is well below Ohio’s overall 63.8%.
Sandusky County has reported 210 COVID cases since Sept. 1, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
There have been three COVID-related hospitalizations in the county, during which there have been no deaths.
County health officials continued to believe the number of cases was underreported, according to Brown, and some residents said they were getting positive results in clinics and other places where they would officially report, rather than getting positive results. , have tested positive after using the test kit at home.
County health departments have limited supplies of new COVID booster shots and are currently short on home testing kits.
