Albany, NY — MVP Health Care and The Legal Project recently announced a partnership to provide free legal assistance to seniors on a variety of issues. The Elder Law Assistance Program, which operates under a $260,000 grant from MVP, helps people 55 and older navigate complex legal matters, create a living will, help with guardianship decisions, and assist with estate planning. It supports planning, assists in the preparation of end-of-life documents, and helps increase understanding. Medicaid and Medicare eligibility, and many other legal issues.
Free legal aid is available to those who meet the age and income requirements in Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia, and Greene counties.
“MVP Health Care and The Legal Project have a mutual commitment to making a difference to our customers and the communities we serve. “Our partnership with The Regal Project will help fill a critical gap in services for older people, It aims to provide reassurance and support the overall health of older adults.”
Lawyers from The Legal Project help low-income seniors and their caregivers obtain legal services that can be prohibitively expensive through the Elder Law Assistance Program. Without the help of a lawyer to understand and protect their rights, seniors often cannot access services or lose assets that could have been protected.
“The legal system can often be a confusing process for seniors and their families,” Legal Project Executive Director Michele Pollock Rich said in a news release. “The Elderly Legal Assistance Program provides compassionate and professional legal assistance to seniors who otherwise would not have access to these services. I applaud them for their dedication to helping those in need.”
Assistance through the Elders Law Assistance Project is now available. For more information about the Elder Law Assistance Project or to schedule a free consultation, please call 518-435-1770.
