The Mold-A-Rama machine has long been a staple of Chicago’s museums. Now, the nostalgic gizmo that sends out souvenirs is getting its own exhibit.

The Museum of Science and Industry tells the story behind the iconic device in “Mold-A-Rama: Molded for the Future.”

According to the museum’s website, the exhibit is “a collection of popular, rare and experimental Mold-A-Rama souvenirs from the past, with quirky colors, designs and, of course, signature smells.” is exhibited.

For $3 ($5 in some locations), the Mold-A-Rama machine melts plastic to create dolls in minutes. The retro-looking device has spawned hundreds of collectible novelties over 60 years, the museum notes.

Several machines are set up throughout the exhibits and museum so visitors can stock up on molds.

The exhibit is currently on display in the museum’s lower floors until late 2023. The museum is open daily from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. The address is 5700 S. DuSable Lake Shore Dr.
