Luxury fashion retailer McMullen opens pop-up boutique in Detroit
(CBS Detroit) – The city of Detroit continues to grow as a high fashion destination.
On Friday, luxury fashion designer Shelley McMullen opened a pop-up shop in partnership with real estate developer Bedrock. This is McMullen’s first physical location outside of California.
“McMullen is thrilled to open a pop-up in Detroit, a city with a rich history and culture and a generally underrated city in the fashion industry, like Oakland.” Leveraging the arts, entertainment and food scene, we look forward to having meaningful conversations with the Detroit community, both through our unique selection of up-and-coming designers and through fostering connections and knowledge sharing.”
On the day of the store’s opening, a steady stream of customers came to the store and enjoyed shopping. One of her customers, Alyia Hines, a longtime online patron of hers, was thrilled to learn of McMullin’s new Detroit location.
“Beautiful, beautiful clothes,” Hines said. ”
Vogue named McMullen one of the country’s top boutiques.
The Woodward Shop stocks clothing, accessories and home décor from designers like Christopher John Rogers, Proenza Schouler and Detroit native Tracy Reese.
“I am so thrilled that McMullen has chosen to pop up in Detroit! Sherry McMullen is a retail maverick with an incredible eye for inspiring, wearable fashion. A true merchant,” said Reese.
McMullen isn’t the first luxury brand to open recently. Gucci He opened on Library Street in August.
“It means they see what’s going on in Detroit,” Hines said. “Detroit has always been a vibrant city. I think they recognize and invest in all the amazing people and energy they have.I love to see that, it’s great.”
The pop-up will be open at 1419 Woodward Ave for the next six months.
Hours of operation are Wednesday-Saturday 10 AM-6 PM and Sunday 12 PM-5 PM.
