What you need to know
- Huntington Library, Museum and Botanical Garden in San Marino
- Friday, October 21 (Premier-level Huntington members) and Saturday, October 22 (public)
- Opera, acrobatics, lectures, bizarre exhibits, cocktails and spooky fun
While the sun illuminates the Huntington Library, museums, and botanical gardens with dazzling frequency, there’s a perpetual mystical mood covering San Marino’s landmarks, with an invisible veil adding atmosphere and character. .
Perhaps it’s the decades-long history of the destination, or the incredible assortment of fiction and non-fiction documents on its storied mountain, or the stunningly bizarre sights that seem to come from a world far, far away. It’s all about flowers and plants.
But Huntington’s mood of mystery rises near Halloween, and two nights set aside in several parts of the sprawling estate are devoted to more bizarre pursuits.
Strange Science: Into the Dark is an elegant, velvety and downright Huntingtonian take on one of our most memorable holidays.
Rather than maze-based scares and candy-scented amazement, the gardens offer two nights of opera, acrobatics, cocktails and, if desired, the chance to dress up in fancy costumes and soar through the scenic space. (And many creatively dressed boisterous people definitely do.)
The 2022 dates have just been announced and, like 2021, the evening is expected to sell out quickly. Tickets for Friday, October 21st will be available for purchase by Huntington’s premier-level members, while the general public will be able to purchase tickets for his Saturday, October 22nd.
Performers from the LA Opera will appear to showcase a selection from “Romeo + Juliet” and other iconic productions, while CirqueSanity delivers tumbletastic thrills.
Prepare your clever and quick answers batch with The Poisonous Pub Quiz, then stop by for a perfect presentation of Poe by the St. George Guild.
Three pop-up bars with memorable monikers, including The Cauldron, The Wytch Wood, and The Wizard’s Sanctum, serve themed cocktails.
Deborah Harkness, author of “A Discovery of Witches,” will also be on Saturday night to talk about good old elixirs and potions.
Again, this annual treat sells out faster than the potion’s fumes dissipate in the frosty night air.Visit The Huntington’s “Strange Science” page and call out your entries now. please give me.
