FRANKLIN COUNTY, ME (WABI) – Hannaford has announced a significant donation to the Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington.
A donation of $350,000 will support Maine Health’s Food As Medicine program.
Provides one year of free support to individuals in Franklin County with one or more chronic health conditions who have limited access to healthy foods.
The pilot program launched in June of this year and will primarily source healthy foods from Good Shepherd.
Participants also have access to peer support, goal setting, healthy cooking classes, recipes, and menu planning with a health educator.
The funds will support a healthy meal delivery program for recently discharged Mainers who have been diagnosed with certain heart conditions.
“Donations from Hannaford and the Good Shepherd Food Bank are very important to this program. Health insurance does not currently pay for this type of program. I’m using it not only to pay for a program in , but also to evaluate whether it works. In the end, I think health insurance will pay for this kind of program, especially if this kind of program works really well. said Dora Mills, Ph.D., Chief Health Improvement Officer at Mainehealth.
Participants will be referred to the program by their healthcare provider.
