Exploring marine science

GROTON — Christopher McVeigh, director of the Department of Biological Sciences and Environmental Technology at Grasso Polytechnic High School, worked with a group of 9th graders at Eastern Point Beach in Groton on Monday.
Students are in the exploratory phase of enrollment, spending two days in each of 12 career and technical education shops to decide which path to follow.
After two days of stages, each student chooses four shops to visit for a longer experience before making a final decision.
McVay led a trawling exercise that introduced students to the variety of marine life that inhabits the waters around the beach.
