DAKAR (Reuters) – Health officials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are investigating a suspected case of Ebola in the eastern part of the country, the World Health Organization said on Saturday.
A 46-year-old woman died Monday in the city of Beni, one of the epicenters of the Ebola outbreak that killed nearly 2,300 people between 2018 and 2020.
She was initially being treated for other illnesses, but then developed symptoms consistent with Ebola, the WHO said in a statement.
Congo’s dense rainforests are a natural reservoir for viruses that cause fever, body aches and diarrhea.
The country has recorded 14 outbreaks since 1976. Last month in northwestern Congo, he declared the end of the latest outbreak that killed five people.
