Richard Ellison, Master of Health Care Delivery Science Student, Dies in Hanover

Ellison served as an Army surgeon for over 20 years and later as a traveling physician.

Richard Ellison, a joint master’s degree student at the Tuck School of Business and the Geisel School of Medicine, died suddenly in Hanover on Thursday, university president Phil Hanlon announced this morning.
Ellison was a member of the Class of 2023 pursuing a Master of Science in Healthcare Delivery, a 12-month program that includes a short residency period in Hannover. According to notes by Tuck dean Matthew Slaughter and Geisel dean Duane Compton, Ellison is a U.S. Army-trained surgeon who retired from the Army in 2015 and has since worked as a mobile doctor.
After completing a general surgery residency at Brook Army Medical Center in 2002, Ellison eventually served as director of surgery at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, according to his LinkedIn page. He was sent to Iraq, Afghanistan and Haiti for several assignments. As of 2017, he worked primarily as a contract general surgeon in Huron, South Dakota.
According to the Huron Regional Medical Center Physicians Clinic, Ellison lives in Luxembourg, Wisconsin, where he is survived by his wife Christy, three sons, and two grandchildren.
