Now accepting applications for the 2022-23 Student Advisory Board

State School Superintendent Richard Woods is seeking students in grades 10-12 to join the Student Advisory Committee for the 2022-23 school year.

These students meet with Woods to discuss the impact of state policy on classrooms and other education-related issues. They serve as superintendent ambassadors to their respective schools.

Applicants must be enrolled in a public high school or charter school in Georgia as a sophomore, junior, or junior for the 2022-23 school year. Includes virtual learning students. The Student Advisory Committee meets in person with her four times during the academic year. Meeting dates are included in the application.

Applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM on September 9, 2022. Late applications will not be accepted. We will contact the winners by email.

University of North Georgia Announces Honors List

The local resident was one of the students selected for the University of North Georgia’s Summer 2022 Honors List. They include:

Presidential Honor Roll: Newnan’s Joshua Davidson. To be eligible, a student must complete at least her 12 hours of academic credit while maintaining her 4.0 GPA.

List of Deans: Audrey Torn of Newnan and Jake Reed of Senoia. To be eligible, a student must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA, earn at least her 12 hours of academic credit, and not get a grade below a B.

Woodle named to list of Manchester U. Deans

Newnan’s Sarah Woodle has been named to the University of Manchester’s list of Deans for the Spring 2022 semester.

Woodle majors in exercise science and fitness.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA and earn at least 12 hours of academic credit.

New website details college affordability and value

The University of Georgia System has created a new website, Georgia Degrees Pay, to help students and families make important decisions about college affordability and value.

The website provides a set of public data on 26 public colleges and universities in Georgia, including the overall cost of attending college, majors and fields of study, average student borrowing, and average USG alumni. allows for comparisons regarding typical career earnings.

It includes tools for comparing attendance costs, future earnings, and student success. All of these were developed by the Carl Vinson Institute of Public Administration at the University of Georgia in collaboration with members of his USG research and policy analysis and communications team.

Each tool allows users to compare universities based on a set of statistics. For example, the cost of attendance tool allows users to compare tuition and required costs, total cost of attendance, average scholarships and grants, and net price.

Also, percentage of students who borrow each year, average amount borrowed each year, percentage of alumni who are in debt to get their bachelor’s degree, average amount of bachelor’s degree alumni who borrow, and debt to get their associate’s degree Percentage of graduates with an undergraduate degree, the average amount borrowed by graduates with an associate’s degree, and the rate of graduate loan defaults.

The website’s new Future Income tool allows users to see the median income of USG graduates in Georgia after completing their degree, as well as the income of various majors, income by alumni of various institutions, and 1, 5 academic disciplines. Coweta County Board of Education

At its regular monthly meeting on August 9, the Board said:

• Approved the 2022-2023 Georgia School Boards Association dues for $25,325.

• Approved an emergency change request to provide additional soil retaining wall system components for the Newnan High School gymnasium reconstruction. The net cost of the change is approximately $31,000.

• Approved for Carl D. Perkins V Grant of $273,423 for equipment, furnishings, professional development, program improvement, extended daily wages, apprenticeship and supervision of Career, Technical and Agriculture Education Programs and Courses at the Eastern Central Education Center. salary covered. Coweta High School, Newnan High School, Northgate High School.

• Approved an emergency change request to relocate a portion of Newnan High School’s parking lot curbs and gutters for use for loading and unloading buses. The cost is approximately $23,000.
