KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WATE) — The East Tennessee community gathered at the Knoxville Convention Center over the weekend for the 11th Annual Girl Talk Fashion Show Gala, where WATE 6 news anchor Tiasa Smith also received an award.
Girl Talk Inc. is an organization that helps create a brighter future for girls by reducing teenage pregnancies and helping improve education. The Girl Talk Fashion Show Gala is an event that celebrates the organization’s work and community support, with flashy gowns and looks hitting the runway.
WATE 6 News Good Morning Tennessee Anchor Tearsa Smith hosted the event and was also surprised by the Madeline Rogero She Pro Award. Former Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogerro was not only Knoxville’s first female mayor, but also the first female mayor of any of her four major cities in Tennessee. She said Rogero was elected in 2011, re-elected in 2015, and did not seek re-election in 2019, serving as chairman of the last city council meeting in December 2019. Knoxville Mayor Indiakin Cannon succeeded her.
