Behind the plan to destroy public education

I’m a big fan of Tom Hartman. He published an article titled “Americans Used to Understanding the Importance of Public Schools and the Commons.”
Key information from the article is: “The formula that billionaires from this era’s David Koch to this era’s Betsy DeVos have used to drive the destruction of public (racially integrated) schools has been set.
• Privatize public schools through charter schools and provide vouchers.
• Withhold funding from public schools while pouring cash into these new private organizations.
• Develop a nationwide propaganda campaign that public education is a failing and/or oppressive tool of the state.
• With public schools running out of cash, use the crisis to destroy teacher unions and eventually shut them down completely.
• When most elementary and middle schools collapse and only private schools remain, start dialing back the money available through vouchers.
• To reduce voucher funds and amounts over time, low-income people will have to borrow from banks to send their children to good schools, as Reaganomics did at our colleges.
“This is not a new model,” Reagan said, going from substandard junior colleges for low-income students to throwing the average American who wants to attend a good college into a $1.8 trillion debt pit. It was started.
“This is not even a unique model just for education. Half of seniors use these private plans.”
Does it look familiar? I encourage you to read this article and marvel at the depth of atrocities the Republicans are undertaking to destroy public education, household finances, Medicare, and Social Security.
Caring for the American people isn’t even on their radar.
Vote DOWN before they take our future and the future of our grandchildren.
