Snowdonia Cheese Review: Discover Bold Flavours and Unique Cheese Varieties

Here at Snowdonia Cheese Co they’ve been making great cheeses since 2001. Their dream was to make small-batch cheeses that were as characterful as the wild and magnificent environment of Snowdonia.
Brothers John and Richard are fourth generation dairy producers in North Wales and have a philosophy of only using the finest quality, carefully chosen ingredients. Each truckle is freshly made to a unique recipe and is packed with flavour. Black Bomber super mature Cheddar was an instant popularity at local farmers’ markets, a creamy, deeply salty cheese, covered in a wax as dark as the nite skies over Snowdonia. Then came Red Storm, their wonderfully bold & complex vintage Red Leicester.
As word spread, and Snowdonia Cheese Co expanded, they wanted to continue to pay tribute to the rich legacy of North Wales – the harmony of its ancient land, its communities, its traditions. So they created a tight-knit family of foodies. Artisans. Cheese lovers. You might call them cheese maniacs. Because who else can manufacture great cheese?
And then there is Rock Star, of course. Their famed vintage cave aged Cheddar is matured deep in the depths of the amazing slate caverns of Llechwedd at Blaenau Ffestiniog, formerly the slate capital of the world and now a UNESCO World Heritage site, encircled by the mountains of Snowdonia. It’s their little tribute to the fabled landscape of North Wales and the generations of slate miners who came before them.
They manufacture cuisine they like to eat theirselves. Goods that satisfy the most demanding of taste. Full of characters. Based in North Wales. And they still hand-make everything in tiny amounts. Snowdonia Cheese Co’s multi award-winning range is currently enjoyed in 32 countries around the world – as well as their own kitchen tables.
