There is an entry fee of $5 per person for breakfast and $5 for cook-off. We will be selling food, t-shirts, and a community cookbook with recipes collected from locals.

Everything else is free, said Green Village Day board member Julia Cody.

“I just wanted some good old fashion fun,” she said.

Village Day never happened after 2018 because there were too few volunteers to help organize it.

According to past organizer Sally Herbert, the celebration began in the early 2000s. It was first mentioned in the Sun Journal at a 2005 firefighters rally.

Sucy, who is also the town’s fire chief, asked Cody if he’d be interested in helping spearhead the recovery. Coady, who has been involved in numerous town committees since moving to Greene in 2015, agreed.

“I really just want to give back to the community,” she said. “That’s why this year’s theme is small town roots coming back together again. It was post-pandemic and we hit it off. We wanted to bring everyone back together.”

The Green Village Day Committee is made up of Coady, Rebecca Brooke, Bre Allard, Eric Farrenkopf, Geri Valentine, and Soucy, the selection committee representative.

Mildred Furbush Rideout, a lifelong resident of the Green and a graduate of Lewiston High School in 1945, becomes the grand marshal of the parade.

Locals are also invited to see Dick Chuck’s Toon Chug Garden Railroad exhibit at 23 Barrel Shop Road from 10am to 6pm.

Greene Village Day is open to everyone, not just Greene residents, Coady said.
