A new trademark application filed a lawsuit against Meta Birkins founder Mason Rothschild in January for using the brand’s Birkin name to profit from the sale and resale of his NFT Meta Birkins collection. It was done months later.

The luxury brand is neither the first nor the last to make a move in the metaverse.
Earlier this year, Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week, a four-day digital fashion event featuring wearables on virtual runways, featured luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Tommy Hilfiger, Estée Lauder and Elie Saab.
Data from Dune Analytics last month revealed that major brands like Nike, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Adidas, and Tiffany generated $260 million worth of combined sales from NFTs.
