At The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), they have focused their selves to the exploration of this magic. What they love doing is finding some of the best single malt whiskies that are out of the ordinary. But it is not some ordinary whisky that they are looking for; they look for those whiskies which are interesting, which are able to provoke the senses and provide an extraordinary experience to share with friends.
SMWS has been on a search for the finest single casks for over 40 years across Scotland and other parts of the world. The Craft of Discovery: Where it All Begins
Each bottle of SMWS whisky starts with a search – an unswerving search for the finest, the unique and the exceptional. They don’t settle for any whisky; their purpose is to search for the best and lesser known whiskies from Scotland and other parts of the world. Every cask is selected one by one, with help of their Tasting Panel, so that only the most unique and interesting flavours reach the members.
Unlike many whiskies, which are vatted from a number of different casks to make a standard flavour, each SMWS bottle is filled from a single cask. This means that each and every bottle that The Scotch Malt Whisky Society manufacture is unique and will not be made again. It is, the passion of the hunt, the joy of finding and the pleasure of sharing that which is unique and exceptional that motivates us.
Brusque and Broad-Shouldered
This whisky starts with succulent sweet bourbon soaked raisins and sultanas, developing into more complex, dirty botrytis, salted caramel and leathery rancio. The sherry component brings a certain leathery character, mineral oils and game stock flavours. Adding water intensifies the aroma and gives out the flavors of dark chocolate, mulling spices and rum n raisin ice cream. On the palate, there are dark fruits, pancake, salted liquorice and cocktail bitters. Subsequent investigation using water has some hints development which unveils ginger cake, roasted hazelnuts, and dried citrus peels.

Salt-Baked Viking
Salt-Baked Viking whisky takes you to a coastal seaside with the smell of salt and ozone with sea herbs and smoldering hearths. Accompanying notes are angelica root, crushed leaves, and stones on the beach. So, on the palate, it is a saline wine with just a hint of peat smoke behind it and reminiscences of pan-seared mackerel, briny olives, seaweed crackers. Sip with a dash of water to reveal hidden exotic fruits, ginger beer and preserved lements in the aftertaste.

Tea-Smoked Salmon
Try to picture yourself at a seaside cook out with cullen skink, lobster tails and hot dogs on the grill. Tea-Smoked Salmon whisky is sweet fruity with a touch of smoke like tea-smoked salmon served with herbal mayonnaise. In the palate, there is a combination of key lime pie, sweet tobacco and sugared almonds. For grilled courgette, add a touch of water, heather honey and chimichurri sauce. Sipped on its own for the fuller range of anise flavors.

An energetic experience begins with raspberry jam glazed croissants, turkish delight and lime jelly presented on a driftwood board. The Cocoa and Kiwi palate gives black pepper, nutmeg, cocoa nibs, dried apricot and saw dust flavor. In water, there are hints of oranges and ripe kiwi added to the tones of roasted nuts and hot saw blade. The palate gives honeydew melon, cold custard and dark chocolate that gives a very good after taste.

Interestingly and deliciously, this dram swirls with the flavours of white chocolate, apples and demerara sugar. Chocolate Mice Nibbling Rhubarb palate reveals a medley of nectarines, peaches, and fragrant tobacco, leading to its star note: stewed rhubarb. Sprinkling of water activates floral undertone of hibiscus and rose petals with almonds and dried mint leaves. Among the other notes, which appear as the voyage goes on, there is tropical fruit, papaya, kumquat, and soft cream soda.
