Music, theater and visual arts are staples at Taste of the Arts. This year’s Downtown Festival will include another of his art forms: fashion.

The Evolve fashion show kicks off at 4pm on Saturdays at The Landing on West Columbia Street.

Festival Steering Committee member Davin Wright is the creator of the fashion show. The name, he says, represents his own career and the ever-changing world of fashion.

A member of local band Midnight Mimosas, Wright recently ventured into the world of fashion and styling. Fashion allows you to show a different side of yourself than music. Wright wants to embrace beauty for everyone, of all body types and sizes, not just women.

Free show segments include throwbacks to the 90s, including TLC and a tribute to Aaliyah. The show is more than just fashion. Music is a big part of the presentation, Wright says, and choosing the right track was no easy task.

“I can honestly say it took me forever to pick a song from the 90s because there were so many great hits,” he says. “So I was stressed about five months picking 30 seconds from a ’90s song… but I feel like I finally got the right experience.”

Wright says everyone who attends Evolve will see and hear what they love.

There is also a set centered around denim. Rock star style and signature makeup. His own brand, MNGL. and business fashion.

From music to business to high school to college, every segment of the show nods to a part of his life, including how he grew up skating. change the time of

Evolve includes pieces and styles from Glam Strands, MakeMiGorgeous, Rage Boutique, Pretty Rae’s Boutique and more. Wright sees everyone involved as a team, pulling everyone together for “this crazy vision.”

Personal fashion has always been important to the 32-year-old Wright, but he never thought he would be involved in something like this. The Elmhurst High School alumnus wanted his football career until an injury cut that dream short.

“If you had told me a few years ago that I was doing a fashion show, I would have looked at you a little bit crazy,” he says.

Wright also says he never thought he would end up making music, but embraced it. Midnight Mimosa appeared after the fashion show.

Wright admits to being a little tired after all the preparations for the festival and fashion show, not to mention the day. But he says he has a great support system of God, his family, including his daughter Nielle, and friends who inspire him.

A taste of the arts would be great, he says. It’s not just because his band plays and he organizes his Evolve, but he’s excited to work with a group of models and creators at fashion shows.

“There are great artists on every stage,” he says of the festival.
